This NY times article is REALLY disturbing….why is everyone sympathizing with the perpetrators over the ELVEN YEAR OLD victim?? They seem to imply that she was asking for it:
“It’s just destroyed our community,” said Sheila Harrison, 48, a hospital worker who says she knows several of the defendants. “These boys have to live with this the rest of their lives.”
They said she dressed older than her age, wearing makeup and fashions more appropriate to a woman in her 20s. She would hang out with teenage boys at a playground, some said.
Even if she were BEGGING for it, it wouldn’t matter: she is ELEVEN years old and was assaulted by 18 men, some of whom where adults up to the age of TWENTY SEVEN- no matter which way you spin in, these men were clearly in the wrong. This is really scary.
I have an application called Stickies on my lappy, so whenever I come a quote, link, song, picture, etc. that I like, I make put it on one of these “sticky notes”. These are just a few of my favorites that I’ve kept for awhile…
“A true soul mate is probably the most important person you’ll ever meet, because they tear down your walls and smack you awake. But to live with a soul mate forever? Nah. Too painful. Soul mates, they come into your life just to reveal another layer of yourself to you, and then leave. A soul mate’s pupose it to shake you up, tear apart your ego a little bit, show you your obstacles and addictions, break your heart open so new light can get in, and make you so desperate and out of control that you have to transform your life.”
Elizabeth Gilbert
“We are taught you must blame your father, your sisters, your brothers, the school, the teachers - you can blame anyone but never blame yourself. It’s never your fault. But it’s always your fault, because if you wanted to change, you’re the one who has got to change.”
Katherine Hepburn “It’s so hard to forget pain, but it’s even harder to remember sweetness. We have no scar to show for happiness. We learn so little from peace.” Chuck Palahniuk “More people have been slaughtered in the name of religion than for any other single reason. That, my friends, that is true perversion.” Harvey Milk “And here is the point, about myself and my co-thinkers. Our belief is not a belief. Our principles are not a faith. We do not rely solely upon science and reason, because these are necessary rather than sufficient factors, but we distrust anything that contradicts science or outrages reason. We may differ on many things, but what we respect is free inquiry, open-mindedness, and the pursuit of ideas for their own sake.” Christopher Hitchens and probably my all time favorite… “I could die for you. But I couldn’t, and wouldn’t, live for you.” Ayn Rand
I finally conquered my fear of NOT having any sewing stuff here at school! :)
I’ve been craving something new and fun but no shopping for me! I am a poor college girl so I had to get a little creative…
Nothing fancy, but I repurposed these weird gloves I had from halloween (I should have taken pictures during the making, don’t know why I didn’t!) into a fun little braided headband :) Made do with scissors, not nearly enough thread, and my trusty little needle. I’m super excited to be having fun with old clothes again, and I’m glad I didn’t goof the whole thing up- I think it came out pretty well! :D

It fits really well- a lot better than I expected, and I didn’t spend a penny. I used elastic from one of those convertible brassiere straps ( :O gasp! so racy, I know, terribly sorry) and this slightly stretchy cotton-jersey long glove that I wore on halloween. It was super easy and only took about two hours when all is said and done!
